1)
The easiest method is to use a VHS to DVD transfer service.
You give them your VHS
tapes and they will transfer the tapes to DVD disc for you. This will
often cost in the region of $30 - $50 per tape for a good quality
service. There are many cheaper VHS to DVD services around, but do
you really want to trust your precious tapes to the lowest bidder!

2) The second method is to purchase a VHS to DVD Combo VCR machine.
These are still widely available and a good one will cost a few hundred
dollars.

3) The third method is to purchase an analog to digital converter
and
use your existing VCR machine (or buy a new one).

In most cases the conversion from VHS to DVD format will give you a DVD disk that will play on your computer and in most DVD-Video
players. Note
that some older DVD players may not playback a DVD disk that you
produce yourself.
Once in digital format on the DVD disk you can use video editing software
to edit your old video footage. You will be amazed at the difference
that you can make to your old films.
It is a good idea to keep your old VHS tapes safe, just in case something
happens to your DVD copies.
